Simon Bridges is urging Police not to overstate the terror threat.

Auckland's Anzac Day events have been reduced from 84 to 26, after security concerns after the Christchurch mosque attacks.

Queenstown RSA has also cancelled its annual Anzac Day march.

Bridges told Chris Lynch authorities are in danger of being overly cautious.

'"It's part of our heritage, so to see fewer events and a discouragement from attending, I reject that."

The National leader says Police need to take a balanced approach.

"I do urge them, and the Government, to do more to try and ensure we can be back to normality as soon as possible on these things."
