Climate change activist group Extinction Rebellion staged a protest outside the central city offices of Environment Canterbury on Tuesday and are pleased with the result.

ECan chief executive Bill Bayfield has agreed to put the question of possibly declaring a climate emergency on the agenda for the next meeting.

Extinction Rebellion spokesperson Grace Stainthorpe told Chris Lynch ECan declaring a climate emergency will show to all levels of government that this is being taken seriously and will allow them to really do their jobs of stewards of the environment they are supposed to be protecting.
