Christchurch is set to get New Zealand's first dog café next year.

'The Barkery' aims to increase the rate of rescue dog adoptions across Christchurch, by providing a space for people interact with adoptable animals over coffee.

There will be a soft launch over summer, with a series of one-off 'Pup-Up' events held in conjunction with local venues, before a permanent venue is found.

Co-founder and Chief 'Pupperational' Officer Ally Mullord told Chris Lynch they've been absolutely overwhelmed by the amount of support from the community and local businesses.
