There are serious safety concerns after hundreds of workers were locked out from Nadi Airport.

Around 200 workers have been locked out ever since attending an emergency shareholders meeting, four weeks ago.

Council of Trade Unions secretary Sam Huggard said the Fiji Government called it an unlawful strike; the workers say they were trying to raise serious employment concerns.

He says replacement workers have been called in, but the airport isn't coping.

"We've had reports that security is at risk at Fiji Airport.

"People have been wandering through restricted areas, and there were also reports yesterday that Air New Zealand had one of its planes on the ground with some undetected damage, that only came up when it landed back in Auckland."

A protest is being held outside the Fiji High Commission in Wellington at today, in support of the locked out workers.
