Australian PM goes on radio to clear up toilet-centric rumour

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has finally faced Kyle and Jackie O, more than two years after they asked him to be on their radio show to address his most unfortunate rumour.

Mr Morrison has never appeared on the KIIS FM breakfast show, joking with the radio hosts he was waiting for them to become the number one show before he called in.

But Mr Morrison today used the show’s wide reach to get the word out about the government’s coronavirus support payments.

Earlier this week, the PM announced the Commonwealth Covid-19 Disaster Payment was being increased from $500 to $600 for people who have lost more than 20 hours of work, and from $325 to $375 for people who have lost between eight and 20 hours.

Kyle Sandilands admitted today his opinion about the prime minister had changed.

“I was not a fan of yours from the beginning,” Sandilands said.

“I didn’t vote for you ... but now I regret it.”

Sandilands said he had watched the PM “handle disaster after disaster” and now he felt “safe with (Morrison) running the joint”.

“I really gave it to you hard,” Sandilands said.

Mr Morrison and the radio duo continued to have a lighthearted conversation, with Jackie O attempting to get the PM to admit who was the “best premier”.

Then, as the conversation started to wind up, Mr Morrison said he wanted to address an old rumour the radio hosts had previously perpetuated.

“Can I clear up one thing from ages ago?” Mr Morrison asked.

The PM went on to address the longstanding rumour he had soiled himself at Engadine McDonald’s, in Sydney’s south, after his beloved Cronulla Sharks lost the grand final in 1997.

“It is the biggest urban myth ever, it is complete and utter rubbish,” Mr Morrison told the hosts today.

“I found the whole thing incredibly amusing, I always joke about it ... it is absolute and total rubbish.”

“That you pooed your pants?” Jackie O asked, before Sandilands said it was “disappointing” the PM was quashing the rumour.

Jackie O joked the PM had really come on their show to clear up the Engadine rumour, as opposed to using the platform to broadcast the new coronavirus payments.

Mr Morrison addressed the rumour in April 2020, on a different KIIS FM show, after Kyle and Jackie O put the hosts Will and Woodie up to it.

The Engadine rumour came from Sydney-based hip hop artist Joyride, who shared it on Twitter.

“Scott Morrison sh** himself at Engadine McDonald‘s after the Sharks lost the GF in ’97,” he wrote.

He said his friend was working there at the time, and the incident was “pretty bad”.

KIIS said Sandilands had been the one dying to quiz the PM about the incident but he refused to go on the Kyle and Jackie O Show in April last year.

When Sandilands got word Mr Morrison was planning to join another show, he called up the hosts to get them to ask the question.

“I told Will and Woody, I knew they were getting him on and I said if possible, bring up the Engadine McDonald’s where he s**t himself,” he said.

“Bring it up because that’s the only thing I really want to ask ScoMo. Did you s**t yourself or not?”

Will and Woody didn’t want to annoy the PM off but when Mr Morrison took at a cheeky jab at Woody’s dating game, they decided anything was on the table.

“I think it’s time for me to get you back Mr Prime Minister, you had a swipe at me before about being unsuccessful in the dating game,” Woody said.

“Mr Morrison, what did happen at Engadine McDonald’s in the 90s?”
