Amnesty International is lamenting the inaction of Pacific leaders, on what it calls an international human rights violation in our neighbourhood.

The official communique which came out of this week's forum doesn't mention refugees or asylum seekers once.

The charity is continuing to put pressure on Australia to release the 1600 people held in detention centres in Nauru and Manus Island.

Pacific spokesperson Roshika Deo says those involved need to try move past a stalemate and toward a solution.

"It has been quite baffling that at a forum meeting with all our regional leaders on Nauru, where this is happening, where children are slowly dying, nothing was done by our leaders."

Deo's most critical of Australia, who are also not stopping others taking them, including New Zealand.

"While Australia's continuing with their abusive refugee policy, the honour also fell on other Pacific Island leaders to show leadership and ensure that they held Australia accountable."
