European Union votes to scrap Daylight Savings

No more springing forward or falling back.

The European Union's voted to scrap daylight savings, which sees clocks change by an hour twice a year.

It won't be implemented until 2021, giving member states time to chose whether to remain in 'permanent summer' or 'permanent winter' time.

Countries that pick summer will change their clocks on the last Sunday in March 2021, while those who pick winter will do so on the last sunday in October 2021.

Britain could be forced to implement the directive should it enter an extended Brexit transition period, although they would be able to backtrack once that's over.

However, Conservative MEPs voted against the move, accusing the European commission of acting like "time lords", the Guardian reports.

The British Government has not offered any formal opinions on the move.
