An active shooter has been reported at a Maryland military hospital.

Montgomery County Police say they are responding to assist military officials with an incident.

Congressman Dutch Ruppersberger tweeted that there is an active shooter at Walter Reed National Military Medical Centre.

"I am currently at Walter Reed Medical in Bethesda where we've been told there is an active shooter. I am currently safe in a conference room w/ approx 40 others," Ruppersberger tweeted out.

Hospital employees said on social media they had received notifications of a code white active shooter situation.
