Some two dozen more refugees have been flown from detention in Nauru for resettlement in the US.

A spokesperson for Australia's Home Affairs minister Peter Dutton says 22 refugees have made the trip as part of a deal struck between former US president Barack Obama and Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.

Afghani, Pakistani and Rohingyans, as well as one Tamil family, were among those to depart.

Refugee Action Coalition spokesman Ian Rintoul says resettlement after five years of uncertainty on Nauru is very welcome for those who are finally being resettled.

There are still over 900 refugees and asylum seekers on Nauru, including around 130 children.
