Social services are reaching out to Wellington's homeless following the closure of the city's central library.
The building is closed indefinitely after engineers discovered significant vulnerabilities with its structure.
Council social development portfolio leader Brian Dawson says finding an alternative location is a top priority.
He says they are looking at a couple of options in the city which could be used as pop up spaces.
"Libraries are used by some of the city's vulnerable as a safe, dry, warm place.
"People who live alone and use the library for social interaction are going to be hit hard by the closure."
