UPDATED 3.19pm: It appears the waiting is almost over when it comes to rumour and speculation about former Labour MP Shane Jones standing for New Zealand First.
Both Mr Jones and New Zealand First Leader Winston Peters have been coy on the issue for months, neither confirming nor denying the possible candidacy.
However party insiders have tipped it as a done deal.
All is set to be made clear tomorrow with Mr Peters to announce his Party's Whangarei candidate in the town tomorrow afternoon.
The Party's Deputy Leader Ron Mark refused to confirm the Whangarei candidate would be Shane Jones when asked about the matter today.
Mr Jones, a former high-profile Labour MP, left parliament in 2013 to become the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Pacific Economic Ambassador.
His term in that position ended in May and since then he has been seen with Mr Peters on several occasions.
Mr Peters believes his party can take the Whangarei seat from National in the same way he won the Northland by-election.
Whangarei has been a safe National seat in the past.
It's currently held by Shane Reti whose majority in 2014 was more than 13,000.
