Prime Minister Chris Hipkins is not yet raising the alarm over donations Kiri Allan received from Race Relations Commissioner Meng Foon.
One News reports Foon and his wife donated $1500 to Allan in 2020 while she was campaigning for the East Coast seat.
A company mostly owned by Foon and his wife also provided almost $10,000 in office rent relief to Allan.
Hipkins was caught off guard today when he learnt about the donations for the first time.
"Wasn't aware of it until you've just asked me about it right now so I'd want to think about that a bit more, but I do think that people holding those roles need to be seen to be politically impartial."
Allan says it’s all above board.
"I felt pretty comfortable, it was well disclosed. It was his wife's shop, it was an empty shop that they owned on the main drag. We paid a sum per week."
