The National Party has only dropped 2 per cent in the latest political poll, despite the tumultuous events of last week.

The 1NEWS Colmar Brunton poll, released tonight, had the National Party on 43 per cent support.

The Labour Party was ahead of National at 45 per cent support, up 3 per cent from the last poll.

The Green Party were up 1 per cent to 7 per cent support, while NZ First was steady on 5 per cent - right at the threshold for entering Parliament.

The poll was conducted from Monday to Friday last week.

Simon Bridges fell in the preferred PM stakes to 7 per cent, his lowest rating so far and only 2 per cent ahead of fellow MP Judith Collins.

Jacinda Ardern was up 2 per cent to 42 per cent support, while New Zealand First leader Winston Peters had dropped 1 per cent to 4 per cent.

ZB political reporter Barry Soper says it'll be a serious worry for National.

"This man has been out on a getting to know you tour, which of course was at the centre of the current meltdown, and it seems they didn't like what they got to know because that is a very low rating."

Soper says it's about where Andrew Little was polling before he handed over leadership to Jacinda Ardern.

He suspects there will be a leadership battle brewing within the party.

The latest poll follows a week of unprecedented political turmoil for the National Party, as Botany MP Jami-Lee Ross laid a police complaint about alleged electoral fraud and traded insults and accusations with leaders Simon Bridges and Paula Bennett.
