New Zealand's push for greater nuclear disarmament hasn't got off to the best start.
Labour's Phil Goff, National's Shane Reti, and Maori Party's Marama Fox are meeting with diplomats from five countries today, trying to persuade them to meet their obligations under the Non-Proliferation Treaty.
Mr Goff says Russia doesn't seem to want to budge.
"They say we are committed to that, but there is a lack of trust in the world. There are problems in the Ukraine, we need to involve conventional weapons as well as nuclear weapons."
Mr Goff says the UK has made some progress, but not enough.
"They have halved the level of nuclear weapons that they have. They will reduce their weapon stock down to 180 - that can still wipe out the world a few times over."
