"We have a plan."
Deputy Police Commissioner Mike Clement has told media that New Zealand Defence Force will deploy to White Island tomorrow morning, joined by other agencies, in order to retrieve the bodies that remain on the island.Â
The retrieval operation will begin at first light. It follows days of growing frustration from grieving families at delays in emergency services returning to the island to collect their loved ones.
However, Clement says that the risk has not diminished, with concerns around a second eruption remain.Â
"There is not a zero risk with this plan, it comes with risk".
