A New Plymouth boy has been rewarded for handing in a wallet with nearly $1500 in it.

Sam McIntosh came across it at a playground in the city.

He saw it had tonnes of cash in it, and that it belonged to an Australian man.

Sam McIntosh told Tim Dower his dad took it to the police station and gave it to the man, who gave him a hundred dollar reward.

"I don't deserve any money really, but that's such a nice thing to do. $100."

McIntosh says the man was surprised all the money was still inside the wallet.
