A former Shortland Street actress has not been seen for a week, raising concerns for her welfare.

Police are investigating the disappearance of Auckland woman Tania Ellwood, 39, who was last seen in Newmarket about 11am last Wednesday, February 28.

Yesterday police made a public appeal for information on her whereabouts and urged Ellwood to contact police to let them know she is safe as her family is worried about her.

Ellwood is described as being of slim to medium build, 166cm tall, with long blond hair.

She may have been wearing dark jeans, a black cross-over top and white Nike boots.

Ellwood is believed to live around the Dominion Rd, Sandringham-Mt Eden area, and her parents are based in Newmarket-Remuera.

She last contacted family at 6pm last Tuesday, and it is said to be out of character for her not to be in contact with family.

A family member posted to Facebook on Tuesday saying, "We love you Tania and we will find you."

Ellwood is listed on StarNow as being an actor, hair stylist, makeup artist and fashion stylist. She had a brief stint on Shortland Street where she played a character called Mandy Timmins.

She attended Epsom Girls Grammar School in Auckland.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Constable Bruges on 021 192 1630, Avondale Police on (09) 820 5700 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
