One person is dead and two people injured - one critically - after a 4WD rolled on a Far North Beach.
Police said the crash happened about 7.30pm last night on Tokerau Beach, 30km north-east of Kaitaia.
“Sadly, one person was located deceased at the scene. The two other occupants of the vehicle were airlifted to hospital, one in critical condition and the other in moderate condition.”
Enquiries into the circumstances of the single vehicle crash were continuing, police said.
The Herald reported last night one of those involved was left trapped under the 4WD after the crash.
Hato Hone St John told the Herald they were notified of a crash on Ramp Rd at 7.22pm, and two ambulances and two helicopters were sent to help.
An operations manager was also sent.
Fire and Emergency New Zealand said they were helping St John.
A car had rolled over and one person was trapped underneath it, the spokesperson said.
Three fire crews were sent to help.
