Ballots for 25 new apartments in Auckland's Onehunga will open next week as part of the KiwiBuild development.
They are the first houses under the Buying off the Plans initiative.
Housing and Urban Development Minister Phil Twyford says construction on these apartments starts today, and are due to be finished by August next year.
The properties include six studio apartments, priced from $380,000, 12 one-bedroom apartments at $490,000 and seven two-bedroom apartments price at $600,000.
Phil Twyford says the architecturally designed apartments are a way for those who've been locked out of the property market to buy a new modern home in a popular area.
