The fuel pipeline from Marsden Point to Auckland has been restarted after being shut down this morning following an alarm from the leak detection system.
The alarm went off in a section of the line between Wiri and Auckland Airport.
It is now understood that today's incident was a false alarm, with the pipeline restarted before 6pm after testing failed to find a leak.
No flights were affected today due to the temporary closure.
A rupture in the pipeline near Ruakaka back in September spilled up to 80,000 litres of fuel on to nearby farmland and caused severe disruption to flights. Both international and domestic travellers were impacted.
Earlier today, a spokesperson for BP confirmed that the leak detection system alarm went off in the early hours of this morning, and the source was being investigated.
Spokesperson Debi Boffa said that alternative fuel supply arrangements were being made by all involved parties.
Energy and Resources Minister Megan Woods spoke to Auckland mayor Phil Goff.
