A Dunedin man is heading to the Vatican, hoping to tell the Pope directly about his experiences at the hands of Catholic priests.
Darryl Smith has received compensation for abuse which began when he was at school in Christchurch.
He was raped by a different priest when he was in Australia, and blames what happened for his later problems with the law.
Smith told Sky News he wants Pope Francis to hear directly about the damage that has been done to people like himself.
"They stole a persons life, they stole my childhood. We can't take that back, they can't give it to us. They robbed us of everything."
