Director General of Health Dr Ashley Bloomfield and Deputy Prime Minister Grant Robertson gave an update on the latest Covid-19 numbers in the community

  • There are 41 new cases of Covid-19 in the community, with 38 in Auckland and 3 in Wellington bringing it to a total of 148 with 137 in Auckland, 11 in Wellington 
  • 8 covid cases are in hospital 
  • 1 additional case in MIQ 
  • The largest sub-cluster had 58 linked cases, and was affecting the Samoan community in Mangere 
  • The second largest sub-cluster was centred on Birkdale, on Auckland's North Shore, and had about 23 known cases. 
  • There are more than an additional 100 locations of interest 
  • More than 9,000 contacts had been contacted and were self-isolating 
  • More than 35,000 tests processed yesterday 
  • There were no unexpected detections of covid-19 in the wastewater, Warkworth has come back negative and the previous positive result of Covid-19 may have been due to a person passing through the town north of Auckland, Ashley Bloomfield said 
  • Healthline had taken more than one million calls now, and more than 2000 people were working on the vaccination helpline 
  • Bloomfield says we expect to see cases slow this week 
  • He also reminded people that the extreme infectiousness of Delta made it critical people followed Level 4 rules, Bloomfield said 
  • Grant Robertson says yesterday was the best day for vaccinations with more than 60,000 vaccinations done in a day  
  • The resurgence payment came into effect this morning and is available national to any business who has experienced a 30% decrease in revenue in 7 days due to the change in alert levels 
  • 26,000 applications have been made so far for the resurgence payment 
  • The wage subsidy came into effect on Friday, more than 100,000 applications totalling about $484 million have been processed so far 
  • Businesses applying for the subsidy were mostly sole traders. Most had between one to 19 staff members, the Robertson said. Only one employer with more than 500 employees had applied for the subsidy so far. 
  • Roberston thanked businesses for their response to the latest outbreak.
