10 new Covid cases in MIQ, one person warned over pre-departure tests

There are 10 cases of Covid-19 to report in managed isolation in New Zealand, the Ministry of Health says in their latest statement.

It is the first since Friday.

There are no new cases in the community.

One of these cases is classified as historical and deemed not infectious.

The new cases have arrived from Japan, the United States, the United Kingdom, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates.

The new figures come as Customs says it's taking an educational approach to people arriving from the US and UK without evidence of a pre-departure Covid test.

As of 11.59 on Friday night, all arrivals from the US and UK have to have returned a negative test within the 72 hours before departure.

Data provided by Customs to Newstalk ZB shows the first three passenger flights carried 74 people who'd originally departed from the US or UK.

One person on flight EK448 from Dubai to Auckland, via Kuala Lumpur, was non-compliant and issued a warning letter as a result.

Customs says the person was issued with a warning.

Three other recent arrivals were exempt from having the documents because they were under the age of two.

From 29 January, fines of up to $1000 can be issued for arriving in New Zealand without evidence of a negative test.

In the statement, the Ministry of Health says that four cases have now recovered, bringing the total number of active cases in New Zealand to 82, while our total number of confirmed cases is 1,900.

The seven-day rolling average up to yesterday is 3,635 tests processed.
