A Christchurch woman is warning fellow renters after her 'gross' treatment by a property management company.

The tenant, who want to remain anonymous, was given a $700 bill after moving out of her rented Merivale apartment, for allegedly misplacing a 'master key'.

Her property manager told her that, because she had lost it, they would have to replace every lock in the block of flats.

"We were never ever told or even looked into the situation that if we were to lose a key or anything that would be $700."

She says her bond was withheld and she was threatened over going to the media.

"I cannot believe it. It's really hard at the moment to get a rental property in New Zealand. We've got property management companies out there that aren't transparent."

After contacting Newstalk ZB, her situation was resolved.
