The Treaty Negotiations Minister says the public has nothing to fear from a pending settlement with Iwi which has interests in Ninety Mile Beach.
Tribal representatives have signalled they want to limit car and tour bus access to the beach because of the concerns they have about the damage and the pollution being caused.
Treaty Negotiations Minister Chris Finlayson believes arrangements will be made to ensure the beach is available for public access.
"People are always worried about change, there's nothing to be worried about. This is a natural development and it's a good development."
