The Government is making it clear the time for consultation is now over when it comes to reforms of Maori land laws.

The issue has gone as far as the Waitangi Tribunal, which found flaws in the way the Government consulted on the matter, however the Te Ture Whenua Bill has now been introduced to Parliament

Maori Affairs Minister Te Ururoa Flavell believes the concerns of those who wanted further consultation have been met, and believes there is broad based support for the Bill to proceed.

"I believe that a large majority of the issues raised about the bill itself have already been addressed, or have been clarified in subsequent drafts," he said.

"Since 1998 there've been umpteen panels that have been established over a long period of time, and certainly since I've been Minister, as I've outlined today, there have been a number of opportunities throughout that process for us to shape up the bill."

Mr Flavell said people can have further input when the Bill goes to select committee.
