A mended relationship between Tuhoe and the Crown, is being seen as the start of a new generation for the iwi.
Chris Finlayson is leading the Crown's apology to the iwi this morning, for past grievances.
Tuhoe chairman Tamati Kruger says with a Treaty settlement complete and sincere police apologies for the Urewera raids, the conditions are ripe for the future.
He says the apology will be able to transcend people from a feeling of distrust and fear, to an improved relationship with the Crown.
Tamati Kruger says they'll start that positive future this afternoon, with a banquet followed by entertainment into the evening.
