The highway through the Manawatu Gorge is operating again during daylight hours.
State Highway 3 has been closed at the gorge since being blocked by a slip on April 9.
One lane of the highway opened about 10:45am this morning.
Traffic lights are alternating traffic passing through the one-lane section of road past the slip site.
The road will be closed at 6pm and traffic will be re-diverted to alternative routes.
New Zealand Transport Agency regional journeys manager Delaney Myers says crews will assess the slip site early next week after the bad weather passed and make a decision on when 24/7 traffic could resume.
