A 10-year-old Porirua student wants to see a change with the way we consume sugar.
It comes as Porirua City Council showed its support for clearer sugar labelling on packaged foods and drinks with a submission to the joint food regulation.
Glenview Primary School student Potiki and his classmates spoke to the council about what they could do to help reduce sugar consumption.
He thinks the way the products are labelled could be a good idea.
"Its a faster way to figure how much sugar it has, and you can choose the one with the least amount. Clearer labelling could also help people choose food with less sugar."
According to research, New Zealanders consume an average of 37 teaspoons of added sugar per day each
