An online campaign targeting pregnant women and their partners has one message - alcohol and pregnancy don't mix.

Ministry of Health estimates suggest about one in a hundred New Zealand babies is born with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder.

Matt Claridge, chief of the industry funded outfit Cheers, says there's a lot of conflicting advice at the moment.

"Some of which are from the health professionals. The message is really clear - no alcohol is no risk. Really, it is advice that is easily dispensed and needs to be taken on board."

Claridge says even small amounts can increase the risk of miscarriage, stillbirth or a baby with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder.

"This is really important that not just pregnant ladies understand that if you are pregnant you shouldn't drink, but those around them. Partners especially, because they are one of the major influencers."

FASD is considered the leading preventable cause of intellectual and developmental problems in children.

The Government signed a deal with Australia earlier this year that will see mandatory labels placed on alcohol.
