Abortion services are becoming more accessible in rural areas but remain hard to access in Auckland.
The Abortion Supervisory Committee says it's extremely concerned about the provision of services, especially in South Auckland.
George Parker from Women's Health Action says the accessibility of services is very important.
"The closer abortion services happen to a woman's home, and the sooner they are able to access them, the better the outcomes for everyone."
More research may be needed to determine whether South Auckland needs localised abortion services.
George Parker says it should ultimately come down to what South Auckland women say they need.
"Do we know whether South Auckland women are having a problem accessing services, or is it actually working okay for them?"
