Updated 3.25pm: There's been a fatal stabbing in central Auckland.

One person has died and another is in a serious condition after the incident near Queen Street.

A third is in police custody.

Investigators have now arrived at the scene, at the Karangahape Road end of Liverpool St. 

A St John spokeswoman said paramedics attended the incident at 12.22pm and two patients were taken to Auckland Hospital.

Police Northern Communications Centre Inspector Kerry Watson has told NZME. staff, "No other persons are being sought in relation to this incident, criminal investigators and specialist staff are making their way to the scene."

Liverpool St is now blocked off to pedestrians and vehicles until further notice.

Alicia Burrow reports:

"They have confirmed it is a stabbing and asked the public to not linger as they assess the situation. It looks like the scene is actually inside the Wilson St Parking lot inside Liverpool St."

The police are advising pedestrians and traffic to use the City Rd route as a detour.
