A 81-year-old woman has died after being hit by a car in Christchurch this afternoon.

The incident occurred in a Deans Avenue hotel carpark at about 2pm.

Police say that the pedestrian died at the scene, and they are investigating the incident.

A second accident occurred 20 minute later, when another vehicle crashed into a commercial building on Antigua Street about 20 minutes later.

The driver was taken to hospital and remains in a serious condition.

The Serious Crash Unit has been advised of both crashes.

Meanwhile, a school bus has crashed on Auckland's Queen Street causing the windshield to crack.

Emergency services are responding to the incident.

A St Johns Spokeswoman said multiple people are being treated with minor injuries and do not require transport to hospital.

Another crash on Auckland's southbound Southern Motorway near Papakura is causing delays.

NZTA say the left lane is blocked and drivers are advised to take extra care.
