Schools want the Ministry of Education to do more to help protect kids on buses.

Wanaka Primary School has asked the Ministry for one bus seat per child after fears for children's safety standing in the aisles.

But a Canterbury principal says getting a seat per student on a school bus is not a straightforward task.

Darfield High School principal, James Morris, believes the Ministry of Education would need a significant rise in funding to be able to afford the change, although he admits the situation is concerning

"We do get regular concerns from parents about the loading on the buses and parents are certainly uncomfortable about having the students standing for so long"

Morris also says the Land Transport Authority would need to change the law regarding standing on buses, as well as the Ministry of Education providing extra money for the changes to happen.
