It's been revealed 23 teachers have had their registration cancelled after being convicted of sex offences since 2015.
Figures provided to the New Zealand Herald under the Official Information Act shows that five teachers have been struck off so far this year after being convicted of sex offences. Â
Herald senior crime and justice reporter Anna Leask says that, in the same time period, more than 330 teachers have faced allegations of sexual misconduct.
She says most of those involved secondary school teachers, and none were at early childhood level.Â
These claims range from inappropriate jokes to more serious sexual offending.Â
