A Kaikorai Valley resident who helped out after a schoolboy was hit by a truck this morning says it's a bad road for accidents.

Police was called to the incident around 9am where a Mainfreight truck hit a teenage Kaikorai Valley College student.

Resident Warren Thompson has seen his fair share of accidents on the road, especially when it's wet.

"It's not a good road. There's been a lot of accidents on it, but I think it's down to speed at the end of the day."

Thompson says, after noticing someone had been hit on a crossing, he rushed over to help, and make sure they were warm enough.

"He seemed to be reasonably quiet and that, just laying there, but it could have been shock or anything."

The boy was treated by St John at the scene and was in a moderate condition.
