Dunedin Police are appealing for help from the public in identifying a driver who made inappropriate comments to a Fairfield School pupil on Friday afternoon.
The driver was described as a clean shaven Caucasian male with dark hair shaven on the sides and longer on top.
It is thought he is around 20 to 30 years old.
The car was a light blue four door hatchback.
The car had black seats or seat covers and it appeared the windows were wind up, not electric.
Police said they would maintain a presence around the school in the coming days and asked any other pupils approached by anyone suspicious to tell a parent or teacher as soon as possible.
Police asked parents to take the opportunity to reiterate with their children ways to keep safe while travelling to and from school and what to do if they were approached by someone who made them feel uncomfortable.
"You may wish to encourage them to walk to school in pairs or groups when possible," police said in a press release.
