The family of a man killed in a drink driving crash in Hastings broke down in tears as the driver responsible for his death was jailed.

Tyler Walker has been sentenced today in the Napier District Court to three years and nine months jail, and disqualified from driving for seven years.

The 21-year-old admitted one charge of drink-driving causing death, two charges of drink driving causing injury, and dangerous driving.

He was more than four times over the limit when he crashed his car on Farndon Road in Clive, in August last year.

The crash killed Jesse Uncles, and injured passengers Kayden French and Stephen Palmer.

Leanne French says her son Kayden is still in hospital eight months after the crash, and will never recover.
