A homicide investigation has been launched in Upper Hutt.

It comes after a man was stabbed on Golders Road, Upper Hutt shortly before 4:30pm.

Despite efforts to revive him, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Police arrested a male at a nearby address for assault, and are currently speaking with him." Detective Senior Sergeant Ian Martin said

"There is not thought to be any risk to the public at this time, however the Police investigation into what happened continues."

A scene guard is in place at Golders Road and Police are continuing a scene examination.
