Sainey Marong will be sentenced this morning to a minimum of ten years behind bars without parole for the murder of Christchurch woman Renee Duckmanton.
Almost two years on since Christchurch sex-worker Renee Duckmanton was murdered, Sainey Marong will be sentenced for his horrific actions.
Marong strangled Duckmanton after having sex with her before dumping her body and setting it on fire the next day in May 2016.
It took a jury just 50 minutes to find Marong guilty of murder after a three week long trial in February of this year.
Marong tried to plead he was insane when the murder occurred.
Life imprisonment with a non-parole period of at least 10 years is mandatory for murder.
There have been 13 cases in New Zealand where a non-parole period of 20 years has been handed down with four of those coming from Christchurch.
Sentencing will begin at 10am.
