UPDATED 11.20am: A former Auckland Transport manager has pleaded guilty to corruption charges.

Barrie Kenneth James George has admitted in the High Court this morning he took more than 100,000 in gifts, including lavish holidays overseas, from roading contractors.

He pleaded guilty to two charges of accepting bribes as a public official.

NZ Herald reporter Matt Nippert was in court and says there was a lengthy relationship.

"He received a total of $103,000 worth of gifts from this particular contractor, I understand this includes overseas holidays, lots of travel and accommodation, it was clearly quite a substantial and ongoing relationship."

The judge has asked for a report on whether home detention is suitable.

George will be sentenced on September 1.
