Another win for Christchurch.

The Canterbury Museum has topped 800,000 visitors for the first time in history

It recorded almost 803,000 people coming through last year - up 38,000 on 2017.

Director Anthony Wright says popular temporary exhibitions and Quake City, a special exhibition telling stories from Canterbury's earthquakes, contributed to the result.

He says increased tourist numbers in the city have also had an effect.

"It feels like the city's well and truly turned a corner, with more locals returning to the central city. "

New developments like the central library and bus exchange were also encouraging more people into the city.
