Templeton residents will be staying at home as series of information evenings on a new quarry proposal in the Christchurch suburb begins.

Fulton Hogan will host discussions from tonight until Thursday by the Templeton Community Centre, to help address concerns about the quarry's negative effects.

But Templeton Residents Association chair Garry Kilday says it's only holding the events so it can tick community engagement off its check-list.

"Fulton Hogan isn't really able to mitigate most of the problems the quarry will cause, they can't stop dust blowing or trucks ruining the roads.

South Island general manager Craig Stewart says they are aware some locals are worried about the effects the quarry could have.

"We are give the community an opportunity to come along and talk to experts about their concerns."
