Christchurch SPCA is appealing for information after two cats have been shot with an air rifle.
They say a shooting on Sunday on Hornby's Ruakaka street is the second there in the past year.
Both cats were pets from the same family and were lucky to survive their life-threatening injuries.
The vet says it's likely Pipsy the cat was shot intentionally and at close range.
