People are being reminded to make fire escape plans after the death of a Christchurch man last week.
Emergency services were called to the suburb of Redwood on July 17th, after a 55-year-old man died in an accidental cooking fire.
Fire and Emergency risk reduction manager Roxanne Hilliard says he was alerted to the fire by his smoke alarms.
But she says his doors were deadlocked and he wasn't able to escape.
Hilliard says people should try to leave keys in their locks while at home and should identify at least two ways to get out.
