Police are investigating a link between an ATM burglary and a wildfire that closed a major Canterbury pass.
Fire crews and DOC are still battling a blaze at Porter's Pass - which started early Sunday morning and spread to more than 150 hectares of scrub.
Traffic is now being allowed through, although one lane remains closed.
Police say a Nissan Mistral was found down the bank from where the fire started.
They say the same vehicle is believed to have been involved in an attempt to steal a Darfield ATM.
The machine was torn out of the wall of a local post shop several hours before the fire started.
