Police have now revealed a gun was involved in the homicide of a 28-year-old man at Charing Cross, west of Christchurch.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Grange Road around 3:30 yesterday.

Forensic specialists are working at the scene today, and it's expected they'll be there for a few more days.

Police say the public can expect to see a high police presence in the area over the coming week, but they won't confirm reports of gang involvement.

No arrests have been made yet.
