The name of a man charged with the murder of a woman outside a Christchurch retirement village can now be made public.

Shia Prasad is charged with murdering 28 year old Keshni Mala Naicker and wounding Arveen Sharan outside the Ilam Retirement and Care on Ilam Road.

The 52-year-old made a brief appearance by video link to the High Court in Christchurch this morning.

His lawyer, Andrew McCormick, indicated he will enter pleas at his next appearance on the 9th of October.
