Christchurch's mayor says she'll never forgive the alleged mosque shooter, and says she has forgotten what his name is.

Lianne Dalziel has visited the United Kingdom on her way to a European conference on how cities can recover from disaster.

She is speaking about her experiences after the March 15th terror attack, in which 51 people were shot down during afternoon prayer.

Speaking with The Guardian, Dalziel says that she still feels raw about the incident and the shooter.

She says Muslim communities spoke of peace, love and forgiveness, but their infinite capacity for forgiveness is something she'll never feel.

"I hope he rots in hell and rots in jails."

Dalziel says that she has not committed the alleged gunman's name to memory, and asked not to be told it when it was revealed the day after the attack.

"I've no idea what his name is," she told the paper.

Dalziel praised the reaction of Al Noor Mosque imam Gamal Fouda, whose speech in the aftermath of the attacks united the city. She described it as "outstanding".

She is also spoke highly of Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern's leadership and the reaction from other Christchurch residents, saying that the Muslim community received an "incredible outpouring of love".
