The Christchurch City Council have voted to lower speed limits in some areas in the central city.
Speed limits will be reduced to 30 kilometres an hour on St Asaph street and 10 kilometres an hour in some areas of Oxford Terrace.
Councillor Mike Davidson's says a school's opening later this year on St Asaph street, which will lift the number of pedestrians.
Over 700 public submissions were made on the proposed changes, with most against the reduction.
